Sorry Linode! I have moved out

moved Sorry Linode! I have moved out

If you are a regular reader of this blog, you know that I have been a long time advocate of Linode and I have written many reviews about them, here and here.  I have been using Linode to host not only this blog but the websites of the company I work for. And it requires stability and uptime because even the billing systems are hosted online. Linode has been great for past 3 years that I have been using them. And lately they have announced their NextGen upgrades . They have doubled the available CPU cores from 4 to 8 and doubled RAM, increased bandwidth and announced the plans to upgrade the host nodes to latest XEON E5-2670 8 core processors. And they have said that they have upgraded disks on the newer host nodes to latest enterprise 15k RPM drives and they aren’t going to use SSD’s anytime soon because of unavailability of professional grade SSD’s for reasonable price.

Yes that’s completely acceptable reason not to switch to SSD’s. But the problem is that disk speed is really low on Linode’s new hosts. I have been getting 60MB/s > speeds from newer hosts every time I test using   Continue reading

Name.com hacked! Change your passwords now

HTP Name.com hacked! Change your passwords now

Hack the Planet, the same group which hacked Linode just a few weeks ago, also hacked in to the name.com servers. This news comes with a chain of allegations claimed by HTP ( Hack The Planet ) . According to HTP and to put a long story short, they wanted to break in to a IRC network called swiftIRC and to do that they needed to hack in to the Linode because its the host of SwiftIRC. So to break in to the Linode they decided to break in to Name.com and acquire the linode.com domain. So they broke in to name.com and also at the same time one of HTP’s member found about a cold fusion exploit and they gained access to linode by using that. Linode upgrades hardware and 2X RAM increase coming soon

Linode is my favorite go to provider for virtual private servers. I have been using Linode in production for more than 2 years and I have yet to face any trouble such as down times etc. You can find the reviews I done here and here .  I know linode is expensive but their service is purely unmatched by its rivals. Linode has perfected the VPS industry. Their control panel is simply awesome and its still wondering how they pull of things like Ram,HDD bumps every year or so by only requiring a simple reboot of the VPS that you are using.  They have 6 data centers around the world and they have hardware uniformity on all data centers.

Last week Linode announced a series of upgrades to its service by giving us 10X bandwidth upgrade.  You can see the official announcement here. They have completely overhauled their network architecture by using redundant Cisco Nexus series routers. And they have done that without even clients knowing it. No downtime or packet loss during the upgrade. I know they can pull this kind of stunts thanks to their servers having dual NIC’s but still its amazing how they upgraded thousands of hosts on 6 data centers without even causing a blip.

Linode Tokyo/Japan Speedtests

Linode which is my favorite VPS host, recently announced their service availability on Tokyo,Japan data center.  If your visitors reside in Asia you might be interested in jumping to Tokyo data center.  But what about speeds? London data center is already performing very well for Asian linode customers.

So to find out what kind of speeds that I can get with Tokyo Data Center, I have snatched a 512MB linode on Tokyo DC and decided to perform some network speedtests. All tests were done with 100MB test files.

Unfortunately the results are extremely poor as you can see below. I wont put the blames quickly on linodes part because since its new there can be few minor problems and most likely be able to resolve this by simple support ticket. But I found something interesting,

Linode XEN VPS review

Recently one of my readers asked me that “Are you ran out of things to write? Why did you published 1 year old scene now” Well I’m very busy these days building my career on Telecommunications Engineering and Cisco track. But this doesnt means im out of time to write but when combined with personal things I’m little behind the scene these days. Never mind lets get to the topic,

linode roots Linode XEN VPS review

Information

Linode is a XEN VPS provider based on 5 top data centers in USA and UK with unmatchable reputation around the web. They have in house developed Control panel to administrate the servers unlike many providers using third party scripts. Its CEO is Cold Fusion app developer and most of the web site sections including control panel are built on Adobe Cold Fusion programming language. Linode gives you freedom to install many Linux OS available and also your custom kernels. 100s of (maybe thousands) of Linode host machines running Ubuntu as host (dom0) to its virtualizer XEN. And its common truth that most of users of linode are using Ubuntu.

yesterday Ruchirablog hit a uptime record of 100 days and that’s the thing forced me to write this review!

My hosting journey

I have hosted on many places until now. Lessons learned and things changed. Early times I didnt had money to buy hosting account so went with

1. 000webhost

000webhost My hosting journey

Actually good alternative if you dont have money to buy paid hosting. I have hosted Ruchirablog there for about a month. Not bad for free hosting.

2. Dreamhost

aboutus green My hosting journey

On that times dreamhost had a promotion to give out a free domain and free hosting account for a year for $9.99 it was blessing for me and I have moved to dreamhost immediately. Believe me I n ever bothered to backup my data for whole year and dreamhost worked like a charm without giving nightmare of losing data. Read my 1 year review here.

3.Keyweb Germany

ag logo My hosting journey

Those times I have started proxy hosting business And bought my own 4GB RAM OpenVZ VPS and deployed Kloxo there and also moved this blog to that proxy hosting server. It was nice experience and the service was excellent.I have pushed 300GB a day with my proxyhosting biz.

4. BurstNET

burstnet My hosting journey

I was busy because of some brutal exams and decided to close out my proxyhosting business after sending out a notice to clients few months before closeout. Then I have got 512MB RAM openvz vps from burstnet to handle Ruchirablog and one of my proxy site got 2000 visitors a day. And I didnt had any problems with them you can read my review here

5. Hawkhost

hawkhost My hosting journey

Remember I said I got 2000 visitor a day proxysite? Proxy site traffic is very unreliable because when sites becomes famous they gets automatically blocked buy web filters of user end. So I lose that huge traffic after few months. And Exams was to start soon. So I have decided to move my blog to shared hosting server with backup solution with RAID so I can forgot the risk of monitoring vps servers. Stayed few months with hawkhost you can read my review here

6. Linode

I got a sponsor for hosting this blog its www.net4ever.eu I have chosen linode because they have data centers in London which gives fast latency to my visitors from Asia and so far so great thanks to net4ever . Actually net4ever servers are great but I have choose linode because they have daily backup options so I dont need to make backups daily icon smile My hosting journey So far so great with linode. And Ill never move hosts again. Im very impressed with linode performance with XEN. And also I ll never move to openvz instead of xen.

Take my word for linode and if you got your mind to try linode use my referral code when you purchasing. You can get best performance on linode while helping me to get some credits. Order here
