How to run MTR report on Ubuntu

mtr

MTR its a well known network diagnostic tool which you can use to troubleshoot connectivity problems on your network or servers. As the official web site for MTR says

mtr combines the functionality of the ‘traceroute’ and ‘ping’ programs in a single network diagnostic tool. As mtr starts, it investigates the network connection between the host mtr runs on and a user-specified destination host. After it determines the address of each network hop between the machines, it sends a sequence ICMP ECHO requests to each one to determine the quality of the link to each machine. As it does this, it prints running statistics about each machine.

spamhaus

Worlds biggest known DDoS attack is currently happening. Targeted at SpamHaus anti spam projects web servers and this is caused to slow down the entire internet because attack already reached 300Gbps yes you read that right! Attack believed to be originated from German Data center service provider CyberBunker  because of ongoing allegations between SpamHaus and CyberBunker. SpamHaus decided to blacklist entire IP range of CyberBunker because CB has a policy of hosting everything except child porn and terrorist activities. This led people to host every other spam and hacking related things on its web servers and angered SpamHaus making it to request A2B which is a IP transit provider for CyberBunker to stop servicing CB anymore. As the SpamHaus site says

What is BitTorrent Live?

bittorrent-live

Bram Cohen, BitTorrent founder recently applied for a patent on shiny new peer to peer streaming service called “BitTorrent live”.  BitTorrent live is born after many years of experimentation on how to stream live video without unnoticeable delay for the viewers.  I assume that you know how BitTorrent protocol work. On BitTorrent everyone who downloads a file becomes a peer and uploads the file to other peers. And there should be at least one seeder to make it work.

Linode is my favorite go to provider for virtual private servers. I have been using Linode in production for more than 2 years and I have yet to face any trouble such as down times etc. You can find the reviews I done here and here .  I know linode is expensive but their service is purely unmatched by its rivals. Linode has perfected the VPS industry. Their control panel is simply awesome and its still wondering how they pull of things like Ram,HDD bumps every year or so by only requiring a simple reboot of the VPS that you are using.  They have 6 data centers around the world and they have hardware uniformity on all data centers.

Last week Linode announced a series of upgrades to its service by giving us 10X bandwidth upgrade.  You can see the official announcement here. They have completely overhauled their network architecture by using redundant Cisco Nexus series routers. And they have done that without even clients knowing it. No downtime or packet loss during the upgrade. I know they can pull this kind of stunts thanks to their servers having dual NIC’s but still its amazing how they upgraded thousands of hosts on 6 data centers without even causing a blip.

What if you can convert the $999 Nvidia GTX 690 in to a $3000 Tesla K10 ? or $1750 Quadro K5000? Yes you can. hacker community is blown up today thanks to a Australian hacker who found out a very easy way to do that. Engineering and manufacturing any kind of processor is really expensive and hardware vendors like to keep the costs down by making one model and then striping down the abilities of it and making different versions by using the same model. It turns out that this logic also applies to Nvidia.

You can convert the GTX 690 to work as Quadro K5000 or Tesla K10 by simply modding a resister on the cards main board.
